According to a text in the Talmud, God has a higher regard for non-religious Jews who become religious than for those Jews who have been observant their whole lives. The rationale is that it is a much greater struggle for a non-religious person to become religious than it is for a religious person to remain religious. I tried to show this in the person attempting to raise himself onto the Bimah. The goal is the uplifting of the soul, from tribulation to hope.
